  • From a record-setting modeling career to fifteen years inside a controlling religious group and twenty-five
years since, Hoyt has turned his lived experience into a cautionary framework for the next generation.

Bio:

For fifteen years, Hoyt Richards was one of fashion’s most recognizable faces. During that time, he was also drawn into a high-control,
coercive religious group, creating a double life few can imagine. This remarkable story is now chronicled in HBO’s acclaimed documentary
series Bring Me the Beauties.
One of six children raised outside Philadelphia, Hoyt graduated from Princeton University with a BA in Economics, where he also
competed as a scholar-athlete. Discovered by Ford Models in the mid-1980s, he went on to a distinguished career that made him one of
the most sought-after male models in the world, earning him the designation of the world’s first male supermodel. He represented
designer brands such as Versace, Ralph Lauren, Valentino and Donna Karan, to name a few, and worked alongside contemporaries
including Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell and Fabio.
What no one knew was that Hoyt was also embedded in a dangerous cultic group called Eternal Values, where he endured an
indoctrination process that led to sustained manipulation and abuse at the hands of its leader. After a harrowing escape, he was finally
free, notably on July 4th, Independence Day, 1999. It had been his third attempt.
For more than two decades, Hoyt has spoken out about the dangers of abusive environments and shared vital life lessons drawn from his
own experience, advancing his mission to educate people, particularly youth, on the perils of falling prey to manipulative people looking
to wrest control of their minds and lives.
Hoyt uses his story as a backdrop to programs and speeches centered on abuse dynamics, overcoming adversity and creating healthy
management systems where power is employed to propel productivity.
He has been featured in The New York Times, BBC, Time, Forbes, Vanity Fair, CNN, Rolling Stone, Interview Magazine, The Daily
Telegraph, and more.

Programs

Hiding in Plain Sight: The Anatomy of a Cult HIGHSCHOOL & COLLEGE
Hoyt’s first-person account of how a Princeton graduate and world-famous model was recruited, groomed, and held inside a coercive
group for fifteen years — a study straight from every predator’s playbook. He shows step-by-step how toxic leaders build and maintain
psychological control, and how a predator and target intersect at a specific moment to create a perfect storm. Students leave with a
sharper eye for the warning signs that hide in plain sight.

Recognizing Coercive Control: A Survival Guide for Campus Life COLLEGE
Drawing on lessons learned the hard way, Hoyt deconstructs the difference between belief and trust, and the manufactured
conditioning that normalizes control until it no longer feels like control. Built for the demographic most at risk, this program breaks
down the tactics of manipulation and isolation that define any cultic relationship, leaving students with a framework for telling real
trust apart from trust that’s been engineered — and tools for protecting their autonomy in any relationship.

Hard-Won Wisdom from Inside A Cult: Leadership Lessons For Future Leaders EMERGING LEADERS & MANAGERS
Every cult has a leader who relies on a specific set of tactics to build loyalty. Charisma paired with control, generosity paired with
dependency, and vision paired with isolation are just some of the strategies used to harness power. In this program, Hoyt turns his own
experience under a charismatic and controlling leader into a cautionary tale for the next generation of leaders. He breaks down the
difference between influence that empowers and influence that exploits, showing how easily healthy authority can curdle into control
when left unchecked. It’s a leadership talk built not on theory, but reflection on what happens when power is granted without question.
