Kane Smego is an international touring spoken word poet and hip hop artist, educator, and National Poetry Slam finalist. He is the Associate Director and an artist alumnus of Next Level, a global hip hop exchange program sponsored by the U.S. Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Kane has performed, taught, and directed programs on five continents, in over 30 U.S. states, and at over 80 colleges/universities.
Kane’s one-man show, Temples of Lung and Air, premiered in 2018, was featured at the United Solo Theatre Festival in NYC and was produced by the Detroit Public Theater in 2019.
Kane’s music and poetry has been featured on BET Jams, National Public Radio, the Def Poetry Jam Reunion, American Public Media, the Shriver Report live, and the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. His most recent album Collard Green Music was released in 2020.
He was a TEDx presenter and has showcased at several NACA conferences including a mainstage showcase at NACA West in 2014, and lecture showcase at NACA Nationals 2017. He also won Best Educational Session at NACA South 2017. A native of North Carolina, Kane currently resides in Los Angeles, CA.
